Tina was commissioned by Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with the aim of empowering staff to have conversations with patients coming to the end of their lives. It was based on the insight that a third of patients admitted to hospital will die within a year.
Synopsis
A kind healthcare assistant reignites the desire for 45-year-old, Tina, to find the daughter she gave up as a child, but is it too late? Tina is homeless and suffering from a liver condition that’ll kill her unless she gives up the drink. Through her battle with the bottle and deepening connection with the healthcare assistant, she starts to make sense of her own life and relationship with her daughter.
The film was launched at a sold out event at the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton. It is being rolled out across the Trust and is forming part of the Trusts adult safeguarding training. It has had an overwhelming positive response. Here is a quote from the Director of equality, diversity and inclusion at KCH:
“Tina” doesn’t just entertain; it ignites a dialogue about compassion and empathy, urging us to pause amidst our busy lives and truly see those around us. It’s a poignant reminder of why workplace culture matters, especially in delivering exceptional care to our society’s most vulnerable.
